What is Halo Campaign Evolved?
Halo Campaign Evolved is a ground-up remake of the campaign that introduced players to Master Chief, Cortana, the Covenant, and the mystery of Installation 04. Halo Studios is rebuilding the 2001 adventure in Unreal Engine 5, pairing its recognizable story and mission structure with modern visuals, updated controls, expanded combat options, and new narrative material.
This is not a remaster or a simple texture pass. Halo Campaign Evolved re-records voice lines, remasters music, rebuilds sound, refreshes cinematics, and revisits encounters across the original ten missions. The remake also adds Operation: METEORITE, a three-mission prequel arc developed around Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson. That makes 13 missions in the complete package.
The appeal is straightforward: longtime players get a familiar campaign with a larger sandbox, while newcomers receive a current-generation entry point to the story. Halo Campaign Evolved launches July 28, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5. It is also available through supported cloud play and arrives in Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.

Nine additional weapons, hijackable vehicles, a broader vehicle pool, sprinting, and more Skulls extend the original combat sandbox without turning it into a different genre.

Halo Campaign Evolved co-op and cross-play
Every mission in Halo Campaign Evolved can be played solo or with up to four players online. Cross-play connects PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, while a linked Microsoft account handles cross-platform friends and progression. Console players can also use two-player split-screen without an online subscription.
Shared co-op progression grants mission and rally-point unlocks, Skulls, and terminals to fireteam members as they play. Cross-save carries major completion data and collectibles between supported platforms, but it does not preserve an exact mid-mission position. For a smoother Halo Campaign Evolved session, the player with the strongest connection should lead the fireteam.

Operation: METEORITE
Halo Campaign Evolved includes a new three-mission story arc set before the original campaign. The missions follow Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson on a reconnaissance operation and are designed to deepen the military science-fiction texture around the first game.
The base release includes Operation: METEORITE alongside the ten remade missions, so it is not restricted to a premium edition. Halo Studios recommends completing the familiar campaign before playing the new arc, even though its events occur earlier in the timeline.

Halo Campaign Evolved Remix and collectibles
Halo Campaign Evolved is built for repeat runs. Campaign Remix can randomize enemy groups, placed weapons, behavior, and active Skulls, producing encounters that may be easier, stranger, or dramatically harder. Collect any three hidden Skulls to unlock the mode and its Adaptation, Armistice, and Reload modifiers.
Across Halo Campaign Evolved there are 39 hidden Skulls—three per mission—and 13 UNSC terminals. Discovering the 17 required Skulls also unlocks the traditional LASO challenge. Together, these systems give completionists a clear route after the first story playthrough and give co-op groups new reasons to return.
